Your contribution helps hire our professional walking guide Andy Lamb** from the award-winning Adventure Tour Company, Wales Outdoors. Your contribution also goes towards EC hall hire and your deep stretch session with me on our return (trust me, you’ll want the deep stretch after this one!). The deep stretch is the only part of the day I am personally providing a service, the rest is purely social and that's why we have a guide!

Optional – And why not join us for a hearty supper at *The Boars Head, Aust. (*extra cost, pay at pub) … you will definitely earn it!

** For this walk, I have elected to include hiring a professional walking guide for their local knowledge, hiking expertise, group walking awareness and health & safety in the outdoor environment. (https://walesoutdoors.co.uk/)

The hike:

It’s a truly exhilarating day!... You can even bring your swimsuit if you like a refreshing mountain dip!

The 8 Waterfalls hike from Pontneddfechan is an iconic and stunning experience in the Welsh Brecon Beacons, just a 1.5hr drive away from BS35.

Personally, this hike is one of my most favourite walks in the west, it is epic and has a little bit of everything for nature lovers to fitness enthusiasts alike. Ancient woodlands, grasslands, sweating-heart pumping inducing hills, valleys, technical & moderate paths to navigate, stunning views from above & below, wild waters and oh yeah… lots of waterfalls! AND if the weather & safety permits, we can even go behind a couple of the falls for a different & exiting perspective! There are 8 main falls plus several smaller ones along the way.

Only you know if this hike is a bit of you, here’s what to expect:

  • Distance: 15km (9.5 miles’ish) it is doable for most!

  • Elevation: 400m (hilly/valley walk, wearing boots is recommended)

  • Time: 10am – 4pm. 6 hours (inclusive of picnic, loo & photo stops)

  • Terrain: Generally, a somewhat technical day yet doable by most- Rough, muddy and broken. There’s easier treading & flat work in parts but do expect for this walk to be tiring (IT’S PROPER WORTH IT THOUGH). I would say you need your footing for the trails, there’s some high views but safe because we STICK TO THE PATH.

What to bring:

  • Walking footwear

  • Warm layers and waterproofs essential

  • Packed lunch

Please be ready, meet promptly for 10am start (maybe car pool with other students):

Sgwd Gwladys, Pontneathvaughan Rd, Glynneath, Neath SA11 5NR

Andy recommends 'What3Words' to locate the start point bluntly.kilts.laminated

We meet outside the public loos at Pontneddfechan. Please do not park in the Angel Inn's car park, there's plenty of parking just before you enter the village.

6pm - The Deep Stretch

Easter Compton Halls – Come as you are! (Pack your mat in advance)

We will stretch it out and let it go! Legs, hip flexors and back. There will be a tailored pose for everybody on the day to create the best most effective session for all!

7.30pm - Hearty Pub Grub at The Boars Head (optional)

Come as you are, refuel and chillax!!!

Please sign-up if you want to book a place for a hearty supper finish. Menu is provided for your perusal; I’ll collect your order in advance.
